Psalm 19:14 Scott Pike

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 (New International Version)

When I first truly gave my life to the Lord and moved from a Christian(one with no Holy Spirit inside) to a Christ follower, I heard people in my prayer group pray “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer”. I started to use something close when I prayed most of the time. I had no idea it was a verse in the Bible I just thought it was what Christians said when they prayed.

Then I was convicted in November 1998 to finally read the Bible completely at Louie Giglio’s 7:22 sermon by Andy Stanley where he kept bringing out all these books people read but never had time for the Bible.
So I started to read the Bible from cover to cover. It was different but it changed my life. As I read my heart was open to who God truly was and He was not mad at me. As I came to the Psalms around my birthday, I heard a pastor end his prayer with Psalm 19:14 and then Tuesday April 13 my deceased father’s birthday I read Psalm 19:14 and as Steven Curtis Chapman said, it hit me like a lightning bolt. I read it again and again. These words were in the Bible. It was like the Lord, through my father, gave me some new enlightenment. You see, my dad had used this verse in prayer. Man I sat in deep refection. I prayed, I cried, I was changed, and I came to love this verse. It was a day I felt I grew a great deal spiritually. So much so that I would never be the same.

I thought of this verse for the next couple of weeks. I truly want my words and thoughts to be acceptable in His site. I studied the verse a great deal and this verse tells us how to praise Him with our words and our sinful heart. Praying that God will keep me from sin, it helps me pray that God will rule over me, and sanctify my words and thoughts: and this is necessary to preserve me from evil thoughts, which come from living in this fallen world. Redeemer – This word is emphatically my favorite word, and with great respect and love to Christ, to whom alone this word God made him to be.

God is our rock and what our life needs to stand on. This comes before being our Redeemer. You can’t be redeemed if you don’t stand on the rock of the Lord. I waver and it is not easy but I always come back to him.

I still do prayers with this special memory verse. I firmly believe no prayer can be acceptable before God which is not offered in the awesome power of our Redeemer (Christ). Because through Him who took our terrible sin upon Himself. So that He might bring freedom to us to speak to God, and restore us to be His child and give us eternal life.
